Bangalore Hampi training trip September 2012

In thuralli

On September 2012 we together with Tania went for a training trip in southern India. Here I will discuss in short about her climbing in Hampi, the most sought out bouldering destination in the country, and also on her climbing in the bouldering area near Bangalore named Thuralli. Before visiting Hampi Tania cut her teeth for a week in the granite boulders of Thuralli. On her first day she climbed 8 problems. One of most impressive climb was an onsight of a really technical slab of difficulty around 5+, other than that she send another 5+ showed to her by Praveen one of country’s best rock climber and told her that can be her project, she quickly send it in 3 tries and difficulty suggested by her was 5+ for the problem

On her second day in Thuralli she made a first ascent of a left hand side slab arĂȘte, which already had a problem on right side, she climbed the right one on stand start, it was around 5+ and also was close on sit start graded 6A, but guru a local climber also working on the problem broke a hold and Tania thought it is now too hard for her , then she saw the left side and got psyched to try out the line, she climbed it on her third go showing her really impressive slab skills, on her second day she climbed 5 problems in total.

We went there for the third time on a Sunday which is celebrated as Thuralli festival day; there were lot of people and climbing enthusiasts. Tania continuing her form flashed 2 problems rated 5 & 5+, she did another first ascent of adifficult 5+, but her most impressive  climb was a 5+ line that had bad fall potential which was really  dangerous. Tania on her first attempt not confident to commit down climbed back to the ground, then mentally prepared herself and send it on her second go, a really impressive display of cool head.
We arrived at Hampi early in the morning of 16th September, after crossing the river Tungabhadra we went to goan corner. After refreshing ourselves we went to the relax boulder area just opposite to the goan corner, after warming up on some 5’s Tania worked hard on a 6A+ on one of the most classic boulders of  the relax boulder area, as the sun came on the rockface she was trying we went to back side of that boulder where she flashed a hard crimpy problem, there were some doubts about the grade(6B+) of that problem printed in the guide book but I think it was around 6A/A+
Next morning we went back on to relax boulder area Tania worked on two hard lines here, she made really good progress on both the 6A+ and 6B, finished all the moves of the first one, only crux of the 6B was left for her to do.
In the evening we decided to go to the Rishimukh plateau, after warm ups and flashing bunch of 5 & 5+  Tania send a 6A quickly , I send psycobloc a 6B+ on 4th try and a 6C+ on the same bloc, it was dark by the time we finished our session.
Next morning Tania decided to work on the classic TV boulder on Rishimukh plateau, after working on it for an hour her skin was not giving any more so we packed and left the boulders, and spend the rest of the day visiting around the ruin’s of Hampi and drove back to Bangalore later that night.

Rakchham 2022 to 2024

Bouldering is the premier venue for pushing the absolute limit of free climbing  Sugar Fish Fb 8B+ ✅   After the last season's project with Bernd Zangerl, Guilliano Cameronni and Melislisa Le neve the psych was high and we invested more time for training, from January to April we worked at a climbing gym as coach and route setter and as the summer approaches headed up to the mountains. this year the motivation was high for some really hard and high quality lines. Rakchham harbours world class bouldering and climbing, so it was our main focus of the year. We reached Rakchham around April and immediately started working and trying the test pieces. While climbing in Rakchham we had to make a few breaks as we have to go to Manali for doing some bouldering and climbing workshops for a few weeks, this turned out to be a blessing in disguise as it provided some important phases to recover and rejuvenate which is so important while projecting at your limit. This year turned out to be ...
